Friday Favorites Follow Up

I always have the best intentions of trying out some of the things that I post in my weekly “Friday Favorites”. But as we all know, the best intentions are sometimes just that – best intentions. Well, the past two weeks, I’ve made a concerted effort to follow through on trying at least one favorite and I thought I would share my outcomes.

At my scrapbook retreat, I was all stoked to make those cute coffee cup Christmas cards (posted by Vicki Wizniuk). Um yeah. I still think they are super cute. But entirely too much effort is required for this girl. I didn’t even make it through completing one. I did conclude that I might feel a little differently if I did one of two things. The first would have been to have the template printed onto cardstock so that I wouldn’t have to trace all of the pieces. However, it would have still required me to cut out all of those pieces. Something that I wouldn't have followed through with. The second option would have been/is to figure out how to pull the template into my “Make The Cut” software and then use my Cricut to do all of the cutting. This would be the ideal. So if any of you know how to pull a PDF into MTC, and wouldn’t mind sharing instructions with me, I might still give the cards a go.

Another “Favorite” that I tried was the Mushroom Lasagna from Smitten Kitchen. Deb’s recipe was super simple to follow and the only change I would make is maybe to use more mushrooms. My only complaint about this recipe is the time it takes to have a finished, edible dish. It took well over an hour and created a lot of dirty dishes. By the time the lasagna came out of the oven, I had already nibbled on something else for dinner. So, once it cooled down, I just put it in the fridge to be eaten the next day. But it was well worth the wait. It was super yummy and I recommend giving it a try.

And lastly, but certainly not least – I had some free time today and I spent it watching the layout tutorial that Kristina Werner posted HERE. What a great tutorial. I would have never thought putting together a grid template like that could have been done so quickly. Plus I learned a cool tip about locking transparency layers. Anyways, I was inspired to recreate the grid template and then scrap some of the pictures I took at the pumpkin patch. Here is my completed layout.
