Project Overload

I am such a sucker for cool projects that I stumble across in my daily blog reading.  Like I really have time to be all crafty and such.  I’m lucky if I get a couple hours in on any given month.  But as part of my 2012 resolve to better “me”, dedicated crafty time is a must.  I just need to be selective – the less is more philosophy.  Ha – someone needs to clue my brain in because let’s take a look at the “projects” I’ve already got in the hopper.  And we are only 11 days into the new year.

1) Project Life – I’ve already posted about my progress on this one.  But I have to admit, that just 11 days into the new year, I’ve seen signs of difficulty.  See, there is this thing called work.  As in the past, it has a way of getting in the way.  But I have managed to eek out a picture each day – even if it isn’t what I would call overly noteworthy.

2) Tresa Black’s “Magic Cube”.  Have you seen her UStream class?  Here’s a LINK to her blog post and video showing the “Magic Cube” in action.  And then here is a LINK to her UStream channel where she has a recorded video on how to assemble the “Magic Cube”.  Completely brilliant and I cannot wait until Part 2 comes out about adhering the photos.

Over this past weekend, I managed to put together my own “cube” following her UStream class.  Let me tell you – it is even better in person.  And then while we were out and about, it occurred to me that this would be a perfect teacher gift – putting pictures of all of the kids on the cube.  So now I need to figure out how to get pictures of all of the kids from Miss B’s class without going through her teacher.

3) Mary Gunn’s “Journey 2012”.  Check out THIS gorgeous piece of artwork.  Mary also has a UStream recorded video (found HERE) for how to put it together.  Mary intends to have a monthly UStream show where you create a layout for the album that documents your way through 2012.  Such a clever idea.

I have all of my materials cut out and ready to go (minus the irresistible numbers on the front – I need to order them).  I just haven’t had time this week to work on it.  I like her idea for filling the monthly pages.  But you know what else would work really well for this type of album?  A baby’s first year!  And given the number of gals I know that are currently pregnant right now (note:  don’t drink the water around here) and I’m sure I could easily whip one of these up for one on of them.  However, I have another idea – which I will tell you about shortly.

4) Jessica Sprague’s Art Journaling class.  Ok – now is the time to start asking me “what were you thinking Charlene?”.  Because clearly, this one might just be a bit over my head.  My brain so doesn’t think this way.  I like things very structured – detailed instructions – tell me how to do it, etc.  But to be fair, I do already have an idea swirling in my head for the first assignment.  So we’ll see how it translates out on digital paper.

And you want to hear something really cool about this class?  We get our own personal font!  People have told me for a long time that I should turn my handwriting into a font.  Well, it is now going to happen.  I’m just waiting for it to come back.

5) And lastly, there is “Take 12, 2012”.  I heard about this one earlier this week over at Katrina Kennedy’s “Capture Your 365” blog.  It complements very nicely with Project 365/Life.  Or is even probably way easier.  I love the concept of picking one day a month to take a bunch of pictures that document your life.  It is so doable.

And here is the icing on the cake.  I could use the Mary Gunn “Journey 2012” album to keep track of my monthly pictures.  Isn’t that a brilliant idea?  I’m pretty stoked about this one.

So there you have it.  I’ve gone off the crazy, deep end with my need to start projects that I don’t know if I have a good shot at completing.  Although when I look at the list, most of them seem pretty doable.  Especially, if I am diligent about carving out crafty time.  Stay tuned and I’ll post updates on where I land with these.  And someone needs to remind me and hold me accountable for not taking on anything else until I finish some of the above.  Have a great day!
